Salon ideas are crucial to creating an experience that attracts and retains clientele, but before making decisions based on them you need to crunch some numbers and determine which are both cost-effective and profitable for your business.
One of my clients hosts an annual chili plant competition for his clients that’s both entertaining and memorable – creating social media buzz and increasing customer engagement along the way!
1. Go Light
Consider the businesses in your community where you purchase services. Chances are they have something unique that sets them apart — maybe a bakery offering croissants on par with Paris’, or perhaps it has paint colors unavailable anywhere else. Branding your salon to stand out can help attract both repeat and new customers alike.
One way of doing that is to add an eye-catching mural wall to your salon suite. Such decor can help open up and welcome the space more freely if your salon has limited budgets and space, as well as provide photo opps for customers that will increase social media followership.
Recurring retail events in your salon are another effective way of promoting your brand, drawing in new clients while simultaneously increasing revenue. One idea could be offering “liter” months, where clients can purchase one liter of their desired hair or nail product at a discounted rate within a specified time period.
2. Go Colorful
An infusion of color in any salon space can bring vibrancy to the space, whether through accent walls, decor items like pillows or plants or neon accents that clients will adore.
Most salons have a base of loyal customers that come back regularly for services like blowouts, nail designs, and brow jobs. To reward these clients’ generosity they should receive special perks like free services once every quarter or access to an exclusive VIP lounge that provides services not available elsewhere.
Other ways of rewarding top tier customers could include offering them a selfie station where they can show off their new hairstyle, nail design or brow job and share it on social media with tags to your salon – giving free advertising. You could even offer an incentive such as offering them a discount off their next service! Lastly, partner with local non-profit/charitable organizations whom you can work closely with on an ongoing basis.
3. Create Your Own Mini Photo Booth
Make sure your salon provides guests with access to props and costumes so they can snap selfies easily, including hats, oversized glasses, wigs and inflatable items. Purchase photo booth signs or make your own using clear instructions.
Add live music and poetry readings for an authentic salon experience. Historically, successful salons were focused around arts and culture and attracted poets, writers, composers, thinkers, thinkers of all sorts, thinkers who represented Renaissance intellectual glitteratti as well as ordinary citizens wishing to exchange ideas outside of church and court constraints.
Later, American author Zora Neale Hurston hosted literary salons in Harlem that helped spur on the Harlem Renaissance movement. She served as a trailblazer in this male-dominated realm by inviting and curating herself, keeping chameleons as an added attraction – as was common for educated women known as salonnieres hosting these initial salons; serving both roles.
4. Add Wall Art
At your next haircut appointment, make the experience more pleasurable with unique salon decor. Add comfortable seating such as lounge couches or arm chairs decorated with beauty themed art that suits your color scheme to give the salon an air of fun and excitement that’s sure to please.
Wall art displays have long been an eye-catching focal point in any space; however, creating an eye-catching gallery wall requires skill and experience.
Salon Ideas were an essential hub of discussion, connection, and community in the 18th and 19th centuries, drawing people together from diverse backgrounds for discussion, connection, and socialization. Some salons would mainly serve one social class while others welcomed all. Salons became platforms for novel ideas that often challenged established sociopolitical power structures – perhaps we need more forums like these today?
5. Add Plants
As a salon owner, you understand that your decor sends a powerful message to clients. While a subpar design could leave them dissatisfied and make them reluctant to return again in future visits or refer friends, the right decoration can have quite the opposite effect.
One of the best salon decor ideas is adding plants. Not only will they look lovely in any salon space, but their presence also helps improve air quality in your salon space. Consider opting for Peace Lilies which have little upkeep requirements while simultaneously eliminating harmful substances from the air such as benzene, formaldehyde, and trichloroethylene emissions.
Other eco-friendly salon decor ideas include using reclaimed wood or bamboo furniture and selecting low VOC paints and varnishes. Furthermore, encourage customers to go car free by offering discounts when using public transport or riding their bike to appointments.
Play calming music to help clients relax while they get their hair done – this will reduce stress levels and blood pressure.
