On Saturday night at Donald Trump shooting at rally, when gunshots rang out during his speech, he clutched his ear and dove to the ground as Secret Service agents surrounded him.
He quickly stood back up, pumping his fist at the crowd who cheered and waved flags – yet no explanation has been offered as to why this 20-year-old scaled the roof of an adjacent building to shoot at the rally? Trump Shooting is a big national issue by itself.
What happened?
At a Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, counter snipers from the Secret Service shot and neutralized an assassination attempt by shooting them before any more shots could be fired by the shooter. They are currently investigating this event as an attempted assassination attempt.
Law enforcement sources state that when spectators noticed someone acting strangely Trump shooting outside the event in Butler, Pennsylvania, they notified law enforcement who eventually located him on top of a nearby building where the gunman had hidden on a roof, alerting law enforcement.
As they arrived, a shooter was firing from an elevated location onto audience members – many witnesses reported the scene was “pandemonium.” Secret Service agents eventually managed to shoot and kill him.
Investigators continue to search for a motive and identity of the shooter at Butler. Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage around the venue in Butler and believe he acted alone.
After being in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware during the incident, the president returned to Washington and began receiving briefings on its investigation.
Who was the shooter?
Thomas Matthew Crooks, who attempted to assassinate former President Trump at a Pennsylvania rally was shot and killed by Secret Service agents after firing a round that struck Trump grazing his ear. Crooks resided alone in Slippery Rock near Butler with no known associates according to police report.
The FBI does not yet know the motive for Crooks’ shooting; they are investigating his mental health as well as whether or not he acted alone.
A preliminary US congressional report has determined that local law enforcement responsible for protecting Donald Trump during his rally shot at his would-be assassin at least twice before they opened fire, according to officials. Officials stated that one shot hit his weapon temporarily before another bullet fired by Secret Service sniper killed him according to this report.
This incident has called into question how well the Secret Service protects former presidents, who receive security protection from their successors while out of office. Acting Director Ronald Rowe insists that his agency is doing its job and ensures that former president is aware of their high level of protection; reports surfaced of someone named Ryan Wesley Routh camped outside Trump golf course in West Palm Beach Florida with food and a rifle who did not have clear sightline to former President.
What caused Trump Shooting to fire?
Investigators are still working to ascertain why the 20-year-old suspect, charged with two firearms offenses, took action. The Associated Press reviewed numerous documents, text messages and videos related to his case while speaking with law enforcement personnel involved.
Like its predecessor, this attack on Donald Trump did not come out of nowhere. Ryan Wesley Routh had been planning an assault for “some time,” according to Kevin Rojek, FBI Agent in Charge of Pittsburgh Office. As Rojek reported, Ryan became “hyper-focused” on attending Butler, Pennsylvania rally held July 13.
Routh had an extensive criminal background, including multiple brushes with the law. He was eventually convicted of felonious activity and prohibited from possessing weapons, while also volunteering in the military overseas as an active-duty soldier. His family have praised his service as they believe he sought to become a “hero”.
On Wednesday, the leaders of a bipartisan task force investigating the shooting escalated their investigation by issuing an urgent request for records and interviews from various entities involved. In their statement they noted the urgent need of the Secret Service “to identify what went wrong and prevent another catastrophic failure from recurring”. Trump has publicly thanked this agency for protecting him as well as pushing back against Democratic allegations that his rhetoric promotes political violence.
Trump Shooting,What happened next?
As shots were fired at his Butler, Pennsylvania rally on Saturday, Donald Trump clasped his ear and quickly stepped back from the podium, later reporting a bullet had grazed his ear before coming close to hitting him a “few inches away from being hit”.
Shots were fired from an elevated position outside the rally venue, prompting Secret Service agents to run from stage and seek shelter amid loud bangs heard by crowd members. Multiple agents can be heard shouting “Get down! Get down!” before one agent said “Steps are ready.” Some were even equipped with assault rifles.
Authorities were seen with an unusually heavy presence at the rally site, cordoning off an adjacent building as they investigated a suspected 20-year-old Thomas Crooks from that spot across the street from it. Crooks’ father told CNN he didn’t understand why authorities had singled out that building for investigation.
Trump was able to continue the rally after the shooting and his supporters cheered when he returned to the stage, prompting cheers of encouragement from onlookers. Afterward, he stated his intention of attending next week’s Republican convention in Milwaukee regardless of initial plans to postpone it and also thanked Secret Service agents for protecting him; White House Chief of Staff Jeff Zients reported he has also spoken directly with Secret Service chief Richard Bowditch regarding developments as he closely monitors them both.
